Many children and young people use games as a matter of course in their free time. At school, on the other hand, they are rarely discussed. Yet Assassin's Creed can teach them a lot about past eras, and a joint Minecraft project can strengthen class cohesion. Children develop unimagined creativity when they are asked to reenact their favorite game in a short film or present it in a Let's Play. They show ambition when lessons are gamified with Classcraft, and they have original ideas for their own games. With the Game Domain of the FHNW there is a place where these and other experiences of game-enthusiastic Swiss teachers are collected and passed on. The presentation will give an insight into this wealth of experience.

Judith Mathez, lecturer in media education, FHNW University of Teacher Education, has been a passionate gamer since childhood and has been working with the topic in education for over 20 years.

On Sunday, October 1, a Stage Fighting Workshop with Maul Cosplay will take place at the ZURICH POP CON & Game Show.

Whether you're in matching cosplay or your favorite comfy shirt, the workshop with the pro stuntman and cosplay star is sure to be epic!

Note: If you want to participate, you have to register directly on site at the festival. Come as early as possible to register, because the number of participants is limited. You can register from Saturday, 30 September, 10.00, at Infopoint 500 (in front of Hall 5/6).

In-app purchases and loot boxes are no longer just a phenomenon of the smartphone world. They are also ubiquitous on consoles like the Xbox. But what is behind these mechanisms that are often sold as harmless? Moritz Friess (Feinheit AG) and Kathrin Amann (Ostschweizer Fachhochschule) will shed light on how these incentive systems not only deplete your children's pocket money, but also prepare them for the world of gambling. The speakers will put the spotlight on incentive systems and explain why they are more than just a matter of pocket money.

In this workshop you will learn simple methods to design yourself and what you need to pay attention to when designing.

Erza Cosplay will teach you about the problems of creative blocks and material of other people's work during her workshop! Want to turn a tablecloth from Grandma into a witch's hat or Christmas decorations into a cool costume? No problem! Because if there's one thing in the world of OC's, it's limitless freedom and creativity. For more than 10 years now, Erza Cosplay has experience in OC's (Original Design Costumes) and will try to inspire you in her workshop and develop a cool new costume with you. Feel free to come by, ask questions and have fun. Because there is always time and space for that in our scene.

PVC offers a wide range of possibilities when building props, helmets and weapons, but also armor. PVC is easy and cheap to get, can be worked by hand and is thermoformable. Are you tired of priming several layers by hand to get a smooth surface? Or are you worried that hot weather or sunshine will warp your cosplay? No problem with PVC. In this workshop Red-Pym Cosplay will show you the versatility of the material with different examples. Red-Pym Cosplay is looking forward to your visit!

You want to sit down at the sewing machine yourself? Great! But don't be too hasty, before you can get started you still need to find the perfect fabric. In this workshop, Secret Geek shows you how important the right fabric choice can be for your cosplay and gives you lots of tips from her years of sewing experience along the way. What material is suitable and how much of it do I need? How do I prepare the fabric for cutting? And what actually happens after that? Don't worry, we'll cover it all. After that, nothing will stand in the way of your next sewing project.

In this workshop, you'll learn how to take an animated design, such as one from a cartoon, anime, or game, and turn it into a realistic costume. Together with Valentine Moon, you'll look at original designs in stylized form and learn how to break them down into their component parts, select materials, modify the design for personalization, fit it to your own body, and work around potential construction difficulties. With some contest experience under their belt, plus a few podium finishes, Cosphilia Switzerland will show you that performing is easier than you think! Everybody can perform, even you! Jarvis Creator will present his work at ZURICH POP CON & Game Show: life-size armors, busts and figures - all 3D printed! He will explain to you the whole process from modeling to final painting.

From the idea to the finished cosplay there are many steps and considerations to make. When YuiCosplay started cosplay, she had no way to access tips and tricks or tutorials from other cosplayers. In 16 years, she has now accumulated a knowledge, which she would like to share with other cosplayers and give them tips and tricks on the way.

YuiCosplay knows the world in front of and behind the camera, goes since 2012 regularly on stage and has also been traveling internationally.

Many people think of cosplay as a display of art, craft, and transformation, but modern cosplayers often rely on the masterful skill of photographers to perfectly capture their vision. Some cosplayers may transform into photographers, some manage to self-shoot, and some photographers even find their way into the colourful world of cosplay without ever wearing one themselves. Cosplay creates a symbiotic relationship between these two forms of art, and more often than not, you'll find yourself collaborating with at least one other person! 

But how do you navigate a shoot? What goes into finding inspiration, or a red thread to build your project around? Do you need assistants? How many pictures will be edited? How do you keep yourself from growing frustrated with yourself? Is there a way to make posing less awkward?

Both Fae and Anna have completed dozens of shoots, switching between the roles of photographer, cosplayer, and assistant. They would love to share their experiences, and answer some of the questions you may have!

Since 2016, Atelier Oechsli has been building life-size creatures. The detailed figures are created according to their own designs in their own art studio in Zurzach on the Swiss-German border. Meanwhile, Barbara and Roman Brosowski's creatures can be seen in St. Gallen, Volketswil and Lucerne, among other places. In this panel, you'll learn about the technology behind these creatures and how the construction technique changed over time from pure handwork to computer design in 3D printing.

In her workshop, Tania reveals the secrets of armor building. From choosing materials, to crafting hacks, to a nice paint job, she'll show you how she makes the armor we all know and love her for! Come take notes and ask her questions so you'll be ready for your next big project!
