The corona virus is turning the latest ZURICH GAME SHOW plans upside down. It is not taking place as a hybrid event in a hall at Messe Zürich as planned, but in an entirely digital form as a virtual event on the Internet. In September 2021, the ZURICH GAME SHOW wants to return to all seven halls of Messe Zürich.
The ZURICH GAME SHOW, one of the largest game fairs in Europe, is forced to adapt its plans of realizing this year’s edition. Due to the latest developments and uncertainties in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, various exhibitors canceled their engagements at short notice. „The gaming industry works in an international context, unfortunately the easing of Switzerland’s measurements relating to the coronavirus is of no help. The quality that visitors, exhibitors, and ourselves are used to and are valued by us cannot be implemented under these circumstances“, says Martin Schorno, CEO of the ZURICH GAME SHOW. „We are now looking ahead with confidence and forward to use all the halls of Messe Zürich again next year. Hopefully under better conditions, and thus offer visitors top gaming experiences – as is the case for the No. 1 gaming event belongs to Switzerland!”
Virtually with the gaming fans.
But gaming fans don’t have to do without the popular convention entirely. From September 26th to 27th, the ZURICH GAME SHOW will be virtually present with various live streams and a new website. eSports fans will meet the weekend as planned in Zurich’s gaming club eParadise at Hohlstrasse 452, 8048 Zurich, to experience various tournaments live.
For next year, the ZURICH GAME SHOW is again planned in all seven halls of Messe Zürich. From September 17 to 19, 2021, the latest stars and trends from the world of gaming, eSports, cosplay, game design, and virtual reality will be presented again.

A world premiere, surprising novelties, interesting panels and discussions, exciting game tournaments and many fantastic cosplayers
The third edition of the ZURICH GAME SHOW was again a great success. More than 34,000 visitors have experienced the fascinating present and future of the gaming culture in the seven halls of the Messe Zürich. Latest games, including more than 13 Swiss premieres, as well as state-of-the-art devices were tested, international game stars and cosplayers were admired. A big highlight was the gameplay demo of “Cyberpunk 2077”, the most anticipated game of next year, which took place at Theater 11 as part of the ZURICH GAME SHOW!
The ZURICH GAME SHOW 2019 is already history. The biggest event in Switzerland for gaming, eSports, digital entertainment, digital lifestyle, cosplay and board games has been held for the third time. Over 34,000 visitors enjoyed a unique and extremely varied program on more than 30,000 square meters of action space in the seven halls of the Messe Zürich. The latest games were played and the latest developments in computer and gaming technology were admired and tested. International game stars were ready for interviews, autographs and selfies.
Charles Martinet – the “Voice of Mario”, YouTuber Domtendo, Jim Pirri, Steve J. Palmer, Gonzalo Martin, and especially Superman Dean Cain appeared on the big stage and told the audience of their work in the game and film industry. The fans also lined up for autographs or photos of their favorite stars.
Another focus lied on the Swiss game developers, who were again offered a unique platform at the ZURICH GAME SHOW to present their new products live to a broad audience. Top-class speakers from various fields of expertise gave interesting speeches and exciting panels about gaming, new technologies in the education sector and e-learning.
There was also a great crowd at the many exciting eSport tournaments, which were shown live on big screens and in which the best teams in various games played for fame, honor and cash prizes. It became clear: The ZURICH GAME SHOW has established itself as the national top event of the eSports scene after only three years. The big highlight of this year’s ZURICH GAME SHOW was the gameplay demo of “Cyberpunk 2077”, the most anticipated new game of the coming year. In the dignified setting of the Theater 11, senior level designer Miles Tost of game developer CD Projekt Red provided insight into the fascinating world of “Cyberpunk 2077”. The premiere of the Samurai Tour of “Cyberpunk 2077” in Zurich was also a world premiere and thus a great honor for the ZURICH GAME SHOW as a venue.
Well-known cosplayers have enriched the ZURICH GAME SHOW with their beautiful, imaginative and very carefully handcrafted costumes and their thrilling performances. The best of them were awarded as part of the two cosplay contests with honor and prizes.
The number of visitors was huge again this year and the organizers were able to increase the ticket sales again compared to previous years despite the sunny weather. “It’s not about setting new visitor records, it’s about providing visitors with a varied program of innovation and quality content,” says Martin Schorno, founder and director of the ZURICH GAME SHOW. “That’s why we are very happy that we receive absolutely positive feedback not only from visitors but also from exhibitors from Switzerland and abroad.”
The ZURICH GAME SHOW not only scored high on site, but also achieved high scores for the live streaming of the eSport tournaments. Thanks to the partnerships with Twitch and 20minuten.ch, it was possible to achieve far more than the smaller eSport community in Switzerland. With 162,121 live views, 731,388 respected minutes, and 1,100 average concurrent viewers, the online presence is also a great success. The organizers want to expand the year-round activities on their online channels due to this high interest and can thus offer sponsors a strong presence with verifiable figures. The gaming community should also benefit from year-round activities and can look forward to more highlights.
The ZURICH GAME SHOW will take place again next year. However, the date is not yet known, as it still must be agreed with various international trade fair dates.
